The Age of Bloggers.

When I was twenty-five years old, I looked upon those who were sixty-five as being ‘old’; their best days were behind them. I certainly didn’t mean it in a discourteous or mean-minded manner, but they were ‘past it.’

Now though, one day ahead of my own sixty-fifth birthday, I can reflect and confirm most unequivocally that I’m not ‘past it.’ In fact, I’m confident some of my best days lie ahead.

Maybe it’s because I almost didn’t see this milestone birthday that I feel so excited about what lies ahead (more of that in a later blog post, perhaps.) I suspect though, I’d have felt this way anyway.

True – my masterplan for Life hasn’t quite worked as I’d envisaged. I’d always had it in my head to be retired by tomorrow, but a couple of redundancies along the way and an increase to the State Pensionable Age have put paid to that joyous notion. I’ll be working for another twelve months at the very minimum.

At least I enjoy the business I’m in and the company I keep … I’m a professional dog-walker.

No – the plan was that as of next week, I’d be spending my days playing obscure loud rock, punk and reggae music from the Sixties and Seventies and blogging about it on my LOUD HORIZON site. Or perhaps I’d be able to spend more time on another blog I co-curate with and old school pal – ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE ‘70s.

Or maybe I’d be in our back room, chilling to the garden view and writing that long-promised novel. More likely though, I’d be blogging more of this nonsense.

Whatever.

It ain’t happening.

But it got me thinking – what age are our most prolific bloggers these days? I bet it’s those of a similar age; those with Life experience; with time on their hands.

I mean, the ‘younger crowd’ will be too busy with all this Tik Tok and goodness knows what ‘influencer’ and Podcast stuff. (They have it well sussed, by the way.) 😉

So, is blogging the propriety of ‘the old?’

Indeed, what is the age of bloggers?

  1. I am one of the older baby boomer bloggers, at 63, but I did start it in my 50’s. The Pandemic really knocked me sideways in terms of future plans. My husband retired a bit earlier than intended but I have become an excellent skinflint!
