I tend not to write about serious subjects. I prefer to keep my writing light and fun – certainly so on this blog and with my articles on another blog I run, Once Upon a Time in The ’70s.
I like the idea my writing may bring a smile to the face of a reader. Or better, a laugh.
I’m full of admiration for comedians who take to the stage and face their potential critics every performance. I sure don’t have the bottle for that. Humour in written form provides the safety net of correction, although the delivery excludes the visual effect imparted by a ‘stand-up.’
Written word also preserves a degree of anonymity. Statler and Waldorf can’t hurt me should my attempts at humour crash and burn.

On the other hand, what I enjoy about writing is also something I dislike.
Selling my self-published books in only ‘hundreds’ as opposed to ‘hundreds of thousands,’ nobody knows, or indeed cares who I am! If I’m to fulfill my ambition as a writer, I’ll perhaps have to forfeit that which I enjoy at present – anonymity.
Hmmmn – an interesting conundrum.

(If anyone’s interested, I also host another blog, Loud Horizon, which focuses ob underplayed and underappreciated bands from the ’60s & ’70s! Pretty niche, huh?)
