My wife and I have just returned from our twelfth visit to Goa, India.
As usual, it was amazing! The people; the weather; the food; the ‘chaos.’
And of course, the wildlife. From the beach and street dogs to the water buffalo to the fruit bats. All were wonderful.
None more so though, than the birds. Many of the smaller, brightly coloured ones are difficult to capture on camera without some serious equipment – and a whole heap of patience!
(I do have the latter, but the following images were all taken with my Google Pixel Pro 8 ‘phone’ camera – no filters or editing, other than some cropping.)
Here’s a selection of some pictures I managed to snap. There are a couple I’ve been unable to properly identify. Any help with this would be most appreciated.
Working from top to bottom and left to right, I have:
1) Pond heron.
2) Egret.
3) Brahminy kite.
4) Black kite.
5) Woolly necked stork.
6) Brahminy kite – with its lunch in its claws.
7) Unsure – looks like some kind of bittern, but I wasn’t aware they came as far west
as Goa.
8) Black headed ibis.
9) Unsure – looks like a UK type curlew, and not the ‘thick-kneed’ or ‘stone’ variety
commonly found in India.
10) Kingfisher.
11) Black kite – crapping on someone from a great height! 😀 😀 😀
Thanks in anticipation.
