If The Shoe Fits …

If The Shoe Fits …

My girlfriend and I would go out on a date
She looked like a model, but had a terrible gait.
I was totally smitten,
But her shoes were ill-fitting –
Her excuse for always being late.

(Today’s limerick was prompted by the word, ‘late.’)

  1. Are these short poems ?I do not understand much of poetic verses but for this, I could read between the lines. Was it all about your girlfriend always getting late to meet you? If yes, then, I have started understanding short poems..

    • Usha:
Limericks are 5-line ‘nonsense’ rhymes. They generally follow a standard rhythmical pattern. Lines three and four are short and punchy, with the final line containing the ‘joke’ or punchline.

I have quite a few on my blog – just look under ‘Limericks’ in the drop-down category box to the right of the page.

They are not serious poetry, and are meant to be amusing and completely made up. So while ‘If The Shoe Fits …’ is indeed about my ‘girlfriend’ always been late, and sort of explaining why that was, (and why she had a terrible gait / funny walk) the whole thing is fictional – made up hopefully to make the reader smile / laugh. 🙂

      (Thanks for taking an interest.)
